Derwen Mawr Nature Preserve
History
Lake Forest Open Lands' purchase and a generous land donation completed the assembly of this 26-acre preserve in 1994. Derwen Mawr contains several remnant pockets of original prairie and wetlands. In 2001 Lake Forest Open Lands began to restore the more highly degraded areas of the preserve, removing non-native vegetation and reseeding large sections with native plants. Derwen Mawr connects to and is part of the Skokie River Nature Preserve.
