We are excited to introduce a new initiative! In response to many inquiries about guided hikes, we are launching Tuesday on the Trail. Each Tuesday at lunch time, one of our experienced field educators will lead a small group interactive tour through a different LFOLA preserve*, highlighting the specific habitat, plants, trees, animals and birds that call the preserve home.
While these hikes are free and open to all ages, please register ahead of time to reserve a spot. The groups will be kept small to enhance individual engagement and to adhere to safety precautions.
Kick off our new program, Tuesday on the Trail, on Tuesday, November 17, National Take-a-Hike Day and hike with us in the beautiful Jean and John Greene Nature Preserve at McCormick Ravine. Dress for the weather and bring your binoculars! Walk will be cancelled only in the event of extreme bad weather. Space is limited and registration is required. Current COVID protocols will be observed; bring your mask! While this program is free, we appreciate any donation. We suggest a donation of $10. This goes to support LFOLA education programs.
Limited to three groups of 10 at the following times:
10:00 a.m.,11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Parking Directions to Jean and John Greene Nature Preserve at McCormick Ravine.
Our six preserves* are open to all and are well maintained in all seasons. Taking a hike in them offers a welcome respite from our screens and a healthy way to unwind and feed our souls. We hope that you will get outside and take a self-guided hike through our beautiful preserves throughout the year.
We hoped to offer guided hikes on Tuesdays for our Tuesday on the Trail series. Due to recent state guidelines recommending that we avoid group gatherings as much as possible during this pandemic surge, we are unable to lead these group hikes at this time. We look forward to offering guided hikes as early as possible in 2021. Please check this page for updates.
While hiking on our preserves, please maintain a safe distance from other hikers, wear a mask when encountering others, keep your dogs on leash and clean up after them. Please be aware that bikes are not allowed on any of our preserves and dogs are not allowed on our Mellody Farm Nature Preserve.
POSTPONED UNTIL 2021
Following the kick-off hike, we will continue to offer guided hikes each Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at a different LFOLA preserve. One of our experienced field educators will lead a small group on an interactive tour, highlighting the specific habitat, plants, trees, animals and birds that call the preserve home.
Each hike will have a different focus and we will go in all seasons as the preserves are active, beautiful and alive throughout the year! While these hikes are free and open to all ages, please register above ahead of time to reserve a spot. The groups will be kept small to enhance individual engagement and to adhere to safety precautions. Current COVID protocols observed; bring a mask!
Pre-registration required. While this program is free, we appreciate any donation. We suggest a donation of $10. This goes to support LFOLA education programs.
